INTERVIEW with Jodi Rath author of The Cast Iron Skillet Mystery Series about her new book;Jalapeño Cheddar Cornbread Murder

Financial fraud of elderly villagers in Leavensport, an urban sprawl threat to the community, disastrous dates, cross-sell marketing gone wrong, and another murder? Jolie Tucker is ready to try dating again. Well, she has no choice—since her family auctioned her off to the highest bidder. Her best friend, Ava, has agreed to a double date, but both friends find out hidden secrets about their partners as well as deception by one of the village’s own, who will soon be found dead. This plot is sure to be spicy!
  • Welcome Jodi Rath author of The Cast Iron Skillet Mystery Series. How often do you cook in a
    cast iron skillet?
Oddly enough, I had NEVER cooked with cast iron until my grandma gave me her 70-year-old cast iron skillet with the family’s secret recipe for pineapple upside-down cake—she had only ever made that cake in this one cast iron skillet because my grandpa loved that dessert—she got the skillet for their wedding anniversary. So, when she gave that me, she also bought me a new set to cook “other” things in. I shared it on Facebook, and it went viral. I began joining FB groups about Cast Iron Cooking and subscribing to magazines for recipes—researching cast iron recipes online and cooking daily with them. Now, I’m hooked. Not only do I cook with them daily, I write an entire culinary mystery series about cooking with cast iron called The Cast Iron Skillet Mystery Series where my protagonist, Jolie Tucker, and her best friend, Ava Martinez, co-own Cast Iron Creations restaurant.
  • Jalapeño peppers are some of my favorites. What other spicy foods do you or Jolie Tucker enjoy? I LOVE spicy foods—a little too much! I love peppery salsa that’s extra hot, death wings (not too often), jalapeño cheese by itself or on burgers—Jolie has a hot and spicy detective Mick Meiser that she is currently sampling!
  • For this books research did you attend "date" auctions? I did not attend any auctions, but for research, I viewed some celebrity date auctions for good causes on YouTube online. Also, I re-watched the episode of Gilmore Girls where Lorelai was auctioned off by Patty!
  • Did you visit adult communities? No, I’m pretty introverted and most of my research is done at libraries and online. I’m a bit like Emily Dickinson—although I do leave my home occasionally.
  • I am very allergic to cats, but fortunately as a child I wasn't. Can you tell our cat loving visitors a bit about your seven furry friends? First off, there are now nine cats! My husband is allergic to cats. He loves cats. He used to take allergy pills, but he seems to be fine now—unless they scratch him—then he gets the runny nose and watery eyes. I had to have a hysterectomy at age 29 and I was not able to have kids. I became a teacher that year teaching high school English for close to 17 years—I’m still in education but through online courses working with OH teachers. So, my second husband is ten years older than me and he had no kids. He had two cats, and I had two cats—somehow over the last seventeen years we’ve had sixteen cats and now have nine. They are all extremely spoiled, loved, adorable, sweet, fun, and ornery all at once! Each one will have a spot on the cover of my series and right now as of book two five are in the series—more to come—for dog lovers, my dog’s dog Colton will be in book 2.5 a Thanksgiving holiday book coming out 11/18/19 called Turkey Basted to Death. I love all animals and am an advocate for animals and kids!
  • Anything else you want to share with our guests? I’d like to thank you for having me here. I appreciate getting to meet new people, responding to all comments, hopefully finding new readers and hanging out with those already reading the series. I’ve made so many new wonderful relationships since starting this series. So, thank you to anyone who visited today!
