The Last Flag Race the Dead Book 1 by Wren Cavanagh

The Last Flag
Race the Dead Book 1
by Wren Cavanagh
Genre: Dystopian Horror, Thriller
What would you do to pay the bills; to survive, or to just get rich, would you compete against other teams in a quarantined town filthy with zombies wanting to bite out your throat?

Emma and Lewis sign up for the race, they need the money to save his life. But they won't just be racing the dead, the surprise blizzard or the other contestants.

Because anger and vengeance know no bounds and like everyone in the blighted town they become pawns in a game of retribution.

The contestants become nothing more than live entertainment to viewers who watch and judge their every move in the town of Prideful as they race each other to arrive alive to a final flag. The team that makes will get airlifted out alive and go back home richer for it, the others walk back to a pittance and if they are not careful. They won't get out at all.

Wren Cavanagh, that would be me. Also writes under the pen name Junior Sokolov.

An artist and writer from great North West.

I am grateful that I have this opportunity to share my work and imagination with you. Growing up my head was always stuck in a book or a comic book (before they got fancy and got the moniker "graphic novels").

More often than not those books were filled with monsters, werewolves and vampires.
Then the likes of Godzilla showed up along with their brethren, born from the very justified fear of the atomic bomb and its consequences.

And that is what I love. Escaping into worlds of monsters and heroes, and sometimes they are one and the same!
Letting my imagination run along and bring into the narrative what I see around me everyday.

I hope that you will enjoy my stories. Find in them a temporary and enjoyable escape of your own.

1) Please describe yourself, are you a mixed breed or a full breed?
My name is Quimbly. I am a Calico cat with eyes of green with gold flecks. I am quite the looker. I keep my coat well groomed and my human sometimes helps and brushes it out.

2) Are you loyal to your human family, or do you prefer to be a loner?
I love my human. He is gentle with me and pampers me to no end. I go everywhere with him, keeping him on a leash.

3) Do you like children or prefer adults?
Adults. They know exactly where I love to be scratched. They also like conversing with me. Children have pulled on my tail and sometimes scream at me.  Adults are better.

4) Have you ever had to bite a human, if so how did it feel?
I don’t. The taste isn’t good. If I need to, scratching works just as well.

5) Have you got a human detective counterpart?
I consider myself to be the detective in our relationship. He does no sleuthing on his own. I have to be the one to urge us to do anything remotely interesting.

6) Does your human feed you well?
Better than well. He only treats me to the highest quality food. It helps keep my coat nice and shiny.

7) What is the best and worst thing about you?
I am a wonderful conversationalist. I can carry a conversation for hours. I have such good stories to tell. However, sometimes that can be tiresome for the humans.

Kelly Hashway fully admits to being one of the most accident-prone people on the planet, but luckily she gets to write about female sleuths who are much more coordinated than she is. Kim knew she wanted to be a writer before she even knew how to write. When her parents read bedtime stories to her, she knew she wanted to be a part of the story world. She started out writing children’s stories, and her stories grew as she did. She discovered a gift for humor and a love for making people laugh with her tales, and the Trailer Park Princess series was born.
Kim loves to not only make her readers laugh and entertain them with a good mystery, but also to examine the issues the everyday people face…well, every day. Issues such as faith and forgiveness, perseverance and tolerance. Set in Lubbock, Texas, the fun books feature a cast of quirky characters, outrageous situations, a drama queen of a dog, and from time to time, a tear or two.
Kim lives with her husband of more than thirty years and two teenage kids in Lubbock, TX.
Susan Boles is a USA Today and Wall Street Journal Bestselling author who lives in Mississippi with her rescue mini Dachshund and rescue cat of no particular breed. You’ll find her writing mysteries centered around small southern towns with lots of great characters.
Lisa B. Thomas
Born and raised in Texas, I always knew I wanted to be a writer. Finally, after thirty-three years as a high school journalism and English teacher, I released my first novel. Having grown up reading Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew, and Agatha Christie, I was drawn to the mystery genre.
I write clean, classic whodunnits with realistic characters and situations. It’s probably because my first book was based on a true-life murder mystery from my own family. That book, Sharpe Shooter, led to the Maycroft Mysteries. I also write Killer Shots Mysteries and the Beachside Bookshop Magical Cozy Mysteries (co-written with Paula Lester.) I call my books “Mysteries with Heart & Humor,” and that’s just what you’ll get.
When not writing, I enjoy my grown husband and dog, my children, grandchildren, grandpets, photography, traveling, and antiquing (aka. buying and selling used junk).
