Publisher: Elite Online Publishing

What every new physician needs to know now . . . and every practicing doctor wishes they had known.

The truth behind The Business of Medicine.

You’re at the end of a long journey that has brought you from a fledgling medical student with nothing but dreams and desire, through one of the most arduous courses of study known to mankind, to a place of relief, and . . . well, fear. As you begin this new chapter in your life, you will soon discover that your studies have made you book-smart. But sadly, you haven’t been exposed to the real world or the business side of medicine . . . until now.

In The Business of Medicine, Dr. Tung Giep lifts the veil of the healthcare industry to expose the underbelly that every new doctor needs to know to join a new practice and begin your career.

•         Are you clear on your career goals and career path?

•         What are the different malpractice insurances?

•         What are your employment options?

•         What questions should you ask during a job interview?

•         How do you assess the best compensation package?

•         What red flags should you look for before signing a contract?

•         How do you get in and out of a contract if needed . . . or can you?

•         How do you negotiate your contract?

Packed with wisdom, guidance, and a healthy dose of humor, this book is the definitive guide to help new physicians navigate the complex landscape of the medical profession and emerge with far fewer bumps and bruises than they would otherwise.

Dr. Tung Giep is a practicing neonatologist who has excelled in his specialty for more than thirty years. His background includes board certification in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine and over twenty-five years as a medical director in community hospitals. Dr. Giep founded and served as president of Newborn Intensive Care Specialists (NICS) for seventeen years, where he and his staff provided hospitals with 24/7 neonatology, pediatric hospitalists, and Maternal Fetal Medicine programs. In 2017, the company was sold to a national company.

His backstory as a refugee from Vietnam and eldest of four sons—all of whom followed in the footsteps of their physician father—is the story of a kid who, by no effort of his own, found himself in a family of physicians and a country of opportunity. He took that foundation and made his way in a profession that exposed him to the best and the worst of humanity. Here, he shares what he learned in hopes that his experiences will help others avoid some of the same mistakes and build a career—and possibly a business—to be proud of.

About the Author

Dr. Tung Giep, the son of a physician and the eldest of four boys who all grew up to become doctors, knew early on his career path. He always wanted to make a difference in patients' lives and help shape the healthcare system's future. The experience of emigrating from Vietnam to the US after the Vietnam War strengthened his resolve and built a resilience that he has carried throughout his life and career.

Dr. Giep is a graduate of Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. He received his medical degree and residency at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), then completed his fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. His background includes board certification in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine, a fellow with the American Academy of Pediatrics, and over twenty-five years as a medical director in community hospitals. He founded and served as the president of NICS, providing hospitals with 24/7 Level-2 and Level-3 NICU and pediatric hospitalist programs for seventeen years before the company was sold to a national company in 2017.

Throughout his career, he successfully developed and scaled neonatal programs from the ground up, providing innovative and quality-focused patient care and resulting in profitability and streamlined processes. Under his leadership, several underperforming nurseries have been transformed into high-performing and top producing units within a short turnaround time. Additionally, he has led the initiative to implement an innovative telemedicine program via Teledoc that provides clinicians 24/7 access to neonatologists, helping to avoid unnecessary transfers and provide more comprehensive care.

He is the Medical Director of Community Hospital Level-2 Nurseries for a Children’s Hospital-affiliated hospital, where he manages the development of the Neonatal Telemedicine Program. He credits much of his success to a diverse background that includes clinical, business, and financial expertise, along with his innate ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. His focus on a collaborative and integrated approach to creating a seamless and best-in-class healthcare experience for all—with the patient and the families at the forefront—has been at the core of his entire career as a healthcare provider.

Dr. Giep lives in Houston, TX with his wife, Michelle and sons Sebastian and Benjamin, and enjoys travel, cooking, and keeping up with the latest technology developments in the medical field. He insists that writing this book has been one of the hardest things he has ever done in life.

Sundays with Grandma by Siavoche Siassi

 Children's Book

Date Published: January 3, 2025

Publisher: MindStir Media

Sundays with Grandma tells the story of an ailing Grandmother who spends her last years in life fully present for her Grandson while cultivating within him an enduring hope and optimism for the beauty of life. Inspired by true events, the book is based on the author's observations of the playful relationship between his son and his mother during a period when she was battling and ultimately succumbed to breast cancer.

Told through the eyes of young grandson Noah, this is a story recounting the memories Noah had with his loving Grandma Sherry during their weekly Sunday visits. These Sundays are filled with delicious food, silly fun times with Grandma, and important life lessons. While Noah notices that Grandma is getting weaker and weaker with each visit, that doesn't stop their special Sundays together. Noah realizes when he is older that Grandma's important lessons have taught him not only about the beauty of life but also how to accept some of its most difficult moments.

Written for kids of all ages, Sundays with Grandma delicately uses the beauty of nature to remind kids who might be experiencing loss and grief that their lives are just beginning to blossom, with so much beauty and growth to look forward to in the days to come.

Betrayed! Banished! Broken! Can Luther's love for Amelia survive?

The Forgotten

The Realms of Darkness Book 1

by KA Stefana

Genre: Dark Fantasy, Paranormal Romance

My name is Luther Van Leer, and I'm a prisoner in the vampire queen's castle. She'll let me out if I'm willing to meet her demands, but I will refuse until she puts a stake through my heart. I'll not let her turn me into a monster. At least, that was my plan. With a turning kiss, I was turned into a monster, banished, beaten, and betrayed. Now, my master expects that I will fall in love with her and play nice. If my cold-dark heart ever finds her, revenge will be mine!

Step into the dark and feudal world of the four kingdoms. The prophecy hangs over the land, turning kings and queens against each other. When Amelia turns Luther, she unknowingly drags him into her world. Instead of gaining a lover, she gains another enemy. Will Luther forgive her ultimate betrayal and help her survive, or will he abandon her? It would be his right.

From the darkness of the salt mines, the horrors of the bird cages, the temptations of the Forbidden Lake, and dragon tattoos, Luther and Amelia will be in a race against time to save their kingdom.

This is book 1 in the Realms of Darkness Series.

Welcome Readers! I am so excited that you are taking this journey with me into the Shadowvere, where my characters live. I love to weave tales of darkness and light, pushing my characters to the end of themselves. How will they react? Some may fall into evil, spiraling into a never-ending vortex of darkness. Others may walk the line between the realms of darkness and light. Only a few will rise above the chaos. They are the defenders and heroes in the world of shadows, but they, too, wrestle with the shadows surrounding them, trying to lure them down dark alleyways and into the back rooms of iniquity.

My friends always ask me where my tales come from. I guess it comes from years of reading great tales from the likes of Tolkien, Lewis, and so many others. In reality, I don't have a clue. The stories somehow flow from the unruly characters that beg to be written yet refuse to follow their storylines. Just the way I like it!

Past the shadows, you will find twist of romance between kings and outcasts, enemies to lovers and everything in between.

As for me, I started my writing journey during quarantine and haven't stopped writing since. I am thankful for the writing community and their support and for my family and friends. Most of all, I am blessed to have a husband who supports all of my late-night shenanigans, wrestling with characters and pounding away at the keyboard until the wee hours of the morning.

~ A million hugs! Thanks for joining the Shadowverse.
