The Kings, a host family in the US, have invited her to stay with them and get a chance to experience life as an American. When she discovers that the King family includes two teenage boys, will she be glad she came or ready to hightail it back across the pond?

M. B. Feeney is an army brat who finally settled down in Birmingham, UK with her other half, two kids and a dog. Currently at university studying for her BA (Hons) in primary teaching, she procrastinates on her assignments by listening to music of all genres and trying to get ‘just one more paragraph’ written on whichever WIP is open. She is also a serious doodler and chocoholic. Writing has been her one true love ever since she could spell, and publishing is the final culmination of her hard work and ambition.

Her publishing career began with two novellas, and she currently has multiple projects under way whilst Honour, a compilation of her own military based shorts, was released in November 2013 and her short novel, The One That Got Away was released February 2015. Always having something on the go can often lead to block which eventually gets dissolved by good music and an even better book.

Her main reason for writing is to not only give her readers enjoyment, but also to create a story and characters that stay with readers long after the book is finished, and possibly make someone stop and think “what if...”

I've only just met Mich, but I already see a lifelong friend. Her talents go far beyond writing. She's a thankless mother of two, a loving woman to her soulmate and is always thinking of her friends before herself. Maybe that's one of the reasons she's gone into teaching; a chance to shape the young minds of our future writers. I'm so excited to spend time with a generous and loving personality like hers and to learn and grow from her wealth of expertise. My life will never be the same now that you have entered my life.

Hmm, a personal testimony about Mich (M.B. Feeney) . . . Where to start! Shall I do this like a Best Man speech? Yeah, why not
.
*pouts that I don’t have a glass of bubbly to toast this awesome girl*

Well, I first ‘met’ Mich quite a few years ago. I can't remember the exact details, but knowing us two, we were probably up to no good. It was online, of course, but that didn’t stop us! We grew close as friends and then we cemented our friendship by meeting up in person. It was at a Twilight convention (don’t groan, it was a fun weekend! Lol).

Here’s what I’ve learned and loved about Mich over the years:

She is fiercely loyal to her friends and family. No matter what, she’s there. No matter what she’s going through herself, she’s there for her friends.

She has a slight music addiction (which we share). I’ve lost count on the artists we’ve talked about over the years lol.

She also adores her cowboy boots (The Boots Stay on!) I swear this addiction was brought on by Jackson Rathbone, but it’s not like I’d complain. Have you seen that man on stage? Phew!

She loves 1 Direction *coughs* Louis *coughs*

She is one hell of a kick arse author! Have you read her books? Damn, this girl can write! She sticks to normal men! Nope, there’s not a billionaire arsehole in sight, thank God!

She’s training to be a teacher. Now, props to her, because being in a classroom of 30+ kids all day . . . nah lol.

But the thing I love about Mich is this. She’s Mich. She puts on no front. What you see is what you get and that’s quite rare in an author. She hates putting herself out there. She hates pimping herself. She’ll bend over backwards for anyone, but ignores herself.

She is an awesome friend and I know that I can count on her for anything. I know she wants the publishing world to take her seriously, because she lives for books – reading and writing.

And Mich, when you get this, when you sit and read this . . . Thanks. Thanks for being such an amazing friend, an awesome author, and someone anyone can instantly love.

*raises cup of tea*

The moment I read M B Feeney’s first story, I knew I had discovered one seriously talented author. With a British flavour to each of her stories, M B builds strong, unique characters that draw the reader in until they can’t help but become invested. Her latest offering, Dear Diary (The Exchange Series Book 1) is no exception. A great start to what I anticipate will be a fantastic series.
When she’s not busy with writing, her studies and family commitments, M B Feeney is 100 percent committed to supporting the indie writing community. She has not only read and reviewed hundreds, if not thousands of stories over the years, she has always been there to lend an ear, shoulder, or hand any way she can for countless numbers of people.
On a personal level, I’ve known M B Feeney for well over 5 years. She is a true friend, mother, sister and confidante… a woman who is genuine, honest, and generous to a fault. (She is also quite partial to pear cider now and then too lol). She also encouraged me to take my first tentative step into the world of writing, and for that, I will be forever grateful. I can honestly say without a single doubt in my mind, that if it weren’t for one Ms M B Feeney, I would not have become a published author.

L J Harris.

With stories set in England that are witty yet quirky, M.B. Feeney has a way with words that’ll suck you right into her fictional worlds. I'm proud to call her friend.

GUEST POST on LOVE by Broken Survivor author Jennifer Labelle ~ Blog Tour Stop

Love

Today I was asked to write about the first time I fell in love. Now when I was younger it would probably have been hard to decide because honestly I probably thought I was in love with every boyfriend I had at the time. *Sigh* to be young and naïve again. J
But, truthfully they were mere crushes, and not even a fraction of what I felt for them even compares to how I feel about my husband. Yeah, I know right? So cliché. The first time I fell in love truly was with the man I am now married too.
I was instantly attracted to him, and I know he felt the same, but I was also weary. I’d just gotten out of a bad relationship and I had a lot of personal issues to sort out so I tried to fight it because I was in such a bad place at the time. But, just when your aren’t looking for something it shows up whether you want it too or not, right?
My husband was persistent, and I obviously caved eventually. He was unlike anyone I’d ever met. So sweet, and supportive, good looking, had a good family, which I was lacking at the time, and he stuck by me when so many others didn’t. I’m not sure what it is he saw in me at the time, but I guess underneath all of that messed up he saw the good in me trying to fight for a better life. He helped pave my way.
When we met in 1995 we were both still teenagers. He stopped by the first time on a day I wasn’t feeling well and had just gotten up from a nap. I looked horrible, literally. My hair was tangled, make-up smeared, and I probably had dry drool stuck to my face, and there he was all 5’9 inches of him, dark haired, brown eyed, muscular hotness standing there by the door talking to my foster dad. Naturally I tried to make an escape back into my room but got busted and was called over to be introduced.
Just my luck, why is it when you look good there is nobody around, but the moment you look your worst you see everyone and anyone? LOL
Anyway, from there everyone we mutually knew tried setting us up, but I wasn’t ready and we started out as friends. A few months later, a lot of time spent hanging out, and several romantic gestures on his behalf and I was toast. The love bug had bit me hard and we’ve been together ever since. It’s now been 20 years total, with 10 years of marriage, three beautiful kids later, and still going strong…
***
Now here is a little about my newest novel, Broken Survivor. It’s based on true events and is especially close to my heart as I can relate to my main character Holly and all of the struggles she’s had to face. Now please note I said it was based on true events, not exactly a true story. There is a difference and I’ll try to explain. The murder actually happened the way it was stated in the book, and I can relate to Holly as I too had an abusive father, had struggles getting over the death of my mother, and going through foster care etc. but not all of the plot is fact, there is fiction in there as well, hence the ‘true events’ wording.  This book was very healing for me to write, as I got to say my final goodbye to my own mother through it. But, I also love the happily ever after ending and the amazing romance that develops between Holly and Zander throughout the novel as well.
Enjoy!

Holly Hewitt is a survivor…

After witnessing her mother’s murder, Holly was returned to her abusive father. Resorting to drugs and alcohol, she ends up landing herself in foster care, where she is separated from her sister and utterly alone.

Zander Harrison is the light to her darkness…

Zander is young, athletic, and carefree, with the support of a loving family. But when Holly is placed in foster care with his brother’s in-laws, she turns his world upside down.

He’s driven to protect her, and to show her the past has made her strong, life is worth living, and love is worth fighting for. If only he can convince her to trust him and stop resisting their mutual attraction.

But sometimes even love isn’t enough to heal a shattered soul.

And all the hard work in the world can’t save…

A broken survivor.

On Monday she’d just got back from seeing her apartment and couldn’t wait to tell Zander about it. He was excited for her and promised to take her out that night to celebrate.

“So tell me about it,” he said.

“It’s great and I can’t believe it’s mine. I mean it’s been so long since I’ve felt like this.” She laughed. “I’m sorry I’m rambling here. I should be describing it to you.”

He smiled at her. They were close to their destination and she wanted to stall for a few minutes before they made it to her sisters so she could tell him all about it and told him so. He’d gotten the cab to pull over a few blocks away so that they could enjoy little alone time as she’d asked and began to walk.

“So then tell me about it.” He sat at the curb and gestured for her to join him.

“Well, the building was constructed two years ago, and the apartment is spacious and everything is new.  There’s a small hallway right at the entrance, the bathroom is on the right at the end of it, and the bedroom on the left side of that. Then there is the living room, and a little farther in I’ll have my very own eat-in kitchen.” She smiled brightly and then laughed again. “I won’t even have to buy curtains, it’s all included. I’m so excited; you’ll have to see it.”

“I will. Will I?” He smiled. “Has anyone ever told you how beautiful you are when your face lights up like that? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you so excited about anything before. I like it, and I’d be honored to see your apartment. Just tell me when and where, and I’ll be there.” His fingers brushed the side of her face as she looked away and blushed. “Look at me.”

She smiled, then exhaled as she looked into those deep brown eyes again. “Beautiful,” he whispered and then drew her in closer for a kiss.

“No,” she whispered, interrupting him just before his lips were about join hers. She could feel his breath against her, and she chuckled at his expression.

“No, I can’t kiss you again?” He leaned back to look at her and raised a brow as if in disbelief.

“You asked if anyone has ever called me beautiful, and the answer is no. Yes to the kiss.”

“Then remind me to tell you as much as possible.” He leaned toward her again, closing the distance between them to give her a peck. He kissed her forehead and then her nose, moving from cheek to cheek before reaching her chin. “You’re beautiful, Holly.”

So close together, their breath mixed and noses brushed together until she slanted her head for better access. “Zander,” she whispered. Lifting her hand from her lap, she boldly placed it on his shoulder and then continued to trail lower to feel his muscular chest and abs. She bunched his shirt in her hand and pulled him the rest of the way. “I love the compliment, but please shut up and kiss me already.”

“My pleasu—” She cut him off by taking measures in her own hands, wanting less talking and more of him.  She coaxed his lips open with her tongue, sliding it against his as their wet warmth combined. Their tongues worked in synchronization and their mouths molded to welcome the building inferno they both held inside, waiting for just the right moment to be unleashed. Her chest rose and fell rapidly when they separated, and she needed a minute to focus.

“Wow!”

Excerpt:

When the ranch faded out of sight, I began to get nervous. There was always the chance of an accident. The horse could step in a gopher hole and stumble, or a million and one other problems could arise, but those possibilities weren't bothering me. I had the unnerving feeling I wasn't alone out here. The nervous tension didn't feel natural. It was more like a warning from outside myself. As I had this thought, I could feel that the red pendant was much warmer than normal. If it got much hotter, it would burn me. If the necklace was an early warning system, that would be great, but from the things the shaman had said, I didn't think it would turn out to be that simple.

The dips, rises, and dry washes could hide someone from view, but they'd have to know the desert like a native if I couldn't catch a glimpse of them. I could have chalked my fears up to knowing the ranch was empty or that the isolation had spooked me. I could have, but a little voice in the back of my mind kept asking, “Did the pendant spook me or had it warned me of danger?” I didn't know, but I turned the horse around and let him pick his own speed on the return ride. He chose an all out gallop, and he was so fast I felt almost like I was flying.

A full hour had passed for Nick to take care of his meet-and-greet responsibilities by the time I rode the horse into the stable. David was still there. When he turned and saw us, his jaw dropped. He said, “Wow, that's the last sight I ever expected to see.”

I said, “What are you still doing here? I thought you'd be out partying by now.”

I climbed down off the horse and began gathering the equipment I needed to groom Star. David said, “Let me do that. Star has decided to tolerate me again, and it is my job, you know. Besides, you're all cleaned up for the party, and I still have to get ready. I'm just finishing up here, so I'll rub down the horse and take him back to the pasture. You go have fun, and I'll see you out there later.”

I thanked him and said, “By the way, what do Cobber and Corker do since the cattle drive is over? I haven't seen them back at the compound.”

“You'd be surprised. Their work is never done. Cattle are always grazing somewhere on the ranch, and the dogs keep them more or less in the same area. Those guys are pretty good at running off any predators too. There's always a cowboy or two who stay at the line shack closest to where the cattle are, and they keep an eye on both the herd and the dogs.”

My curiosity satisfied, I thanked him again and went to find Nick.

I saw him talking to the cooks. The barbeque was almost ready to serve, and as I got closer the smell made my mouth water. Standing beside Nick was Laudine. She was wearing a yellow skirt and a white blouse with a multicolored ruffle. She looked about thirty years old. I said, “Don't you look great today? What are you doing hanging around the cooking on your day off?”

“I'll have you know the absolutely perfect barbeque sauce being used today is my own special recipe. You didn't seriously think I'd leave all the cooking to a bunch of cowboys, did you?”

One of the cooks at the grill said, “Hey, watch it, lady, or we'll have you out at the cook wagon on our next roundup.”
I laughed at their banter and said, “I should have known. If this food tastes as good as it smells, we are all in for a treat.”
We weren't quite ready to eat yet, so we rounded up Lawrence and walked out behind the recreation room to check out the activities. I rounded the corner and stopped dead in my tracks. I said, “Good grief, I had no idea a full carnival was camped out here. This is as big as most carnival midways, including the rides!”

Nick said, “We try to have something spectacular and different each year. This not only looks like a carnival, it actually is a carnival. The owner is a friend of Lawrence's, so he set this up.”

I said, “Lawrence, you have hidden talents. How in the world did you ever become such good friends with a carnival owner?”

“It's a long story and a good one, but I don't think we have time for it today. One night when we're sitting around a good fire, I'll tell you about the first time I ran into Hannibus Carson. Right now I challenge you all to a game of breaking balloons.”

Nick was picking up the tab for the carnival, and all the games were free to party-goers. We began by throwing darts and progressed around the circle of booths. I love carnival food and was tempted to eat at all the food booths we passed, but I resisted in anticipation of the barbeque. Hopefully I could try these goodies later. It wasn't long until we'd worked up an appetite and headed back to the food tables. We loaded our plates with barbequed ribs, potato salad, homemade French fries, and anything else that struck our fancy from the dozens of choices. One of my favorites was the cowboy beans, usually made with pinto beans, but the cook wasn't above throwing in any other type of beans he happened to have around. I knew this dish always had ham or bacon for flavoring. I didn't know what else they added, but I planned to ask before I went home. I wanted to be able to make this dish myself when I got a craving for the delicious smoky taste.

Once our plates were full, we found table space in the rec room and settled down to some serious eating. Laudine and I only managed to get through our first plateful, but when Nick and Lawrence went back for seconds, we had them bring us peach pie for dessert. Each piece was a huge slab, and Laudine and I could easily have shared one, but when the men brought us each a piece of our own, we ate every bite. The peaches were fresh from a local grower, the crust flaky, and the juice still slightly warm. All the food I tasted seemed way above the normal quality for a gathering of this type. When we couldn't hold another bite, our friends went off to visit with Hannibus Carson and Nick and I decided on a walk to help digest the food. People were still coming up to talk to Nick, but now it was just friendly chatter. We strolled around from group to group, and sooner or later I saw almost everyone I knew. Betty and Cameron had been in the rec room while we ate. I saw David and Cody together at the carnival surrounded by a group of flirting girls. Becky Cloud, the assistant cook I'd met in the restaurant break room, stood close to David, smiling up at him like he'd hung the moon. The sheriff and his wife were piling plates with food, and the Herreras were still competing, but this time it was at one of the games on the midway. I saw Hwan with a tall, good-looking guy and steered Nick their direction. She introduced her friend as someone she had met in one of her classes at the university. I only caught his first name, which was Tony. Hwan was stunning in jade green jeans and a shimmering pearl-colored top. As we were moving to the next group, Reed walked up to chat with Hwan. Olivia Denning was there wearing a beautiful pleated squaw dress and barely resembled the efficient head housekeeper I'd met previously. Both the guests and the employees seemed to be having a great time. Even the Banner twins were here with a group of kids their own age and were behaving like normal teenagers.
It was just getting dark when we heard the band start its first number. We decided to have a go at dancing. Nick assured me it wouldn't hurt his leg. We'd danced together a few times before, and we both loved it. The second number was a two-step and we were doing pretty well when I stumbled slightly and said, “Oh, damn, you need to come outside with me now.”

Guest post on WHAT INSPIRES THE author of "The Last Omen: Possessed" Steven Nedelton ~ presented by A.B. Tours

My interests are in the action, general thriller genre. Up till now, my books were based on the news events in the past. I would read newspapers, the associated history and get ideas for books. Some of the inspiration came from the previously read top sellers too, but, in general, it was the form of their content rather than the content itself that guided me. What  I usually search for are a few interesting tidbits, not the main incident itself. The central item is often already taken by other writers who were alerted much earlier by their journalist friends (as usual, it’s still ‘who you know’). As an example, my book ‘Dance of Shadows’ was based on the paranormal powers used in the USSSR and US espionage. Several books were already published based on this central idea—Including several secret yet now known such incidents. I did quite a bit of searching on my own and came up with a completely different story. The book took five years of writing and research.

I am still involved in searching the Internet for the top stories that might provide me with that spark that lights up my imagination and starts me working on that ‘new project.’

This occult suspense story is about a possessed woman, a journalist/author trapped by her demon and a soldier of fortune hunting untouchables. The journalist/author, C. Adams, inherits a fortune from his uncle. He is pursuing a successful business woman when he discovers that she is possessed by a demon. She warns him, but the demon turns vicious and the journalist is exposed to blood-freezing occult encounters. In a parallel narrative, a foreign soldier, married to a New York City nurse, and desperately looking for employment in the New York City, turns to bounty hunting the most dangerous untouchables. At one point, the paths of the two men cross. Detective Richter is trying to unscramble the puzzle, but cannot control the events. What happens next, when demons possess the naïve—is up to the reader to discover.

The partly true-life thriller tale contains horror settings, unrelenting action and true demon encounters. If you never believed in the paranormal, you will after reading this entertaining book.

Steven Nedelton writes suspenseful novels in crime, mystery and paranormal genres. Author’s published titles are: The Last Omen/Possessed, Dance of Shadows/Dangerous Trade, The Raven Affair, Fear!, A Suitcase Mystery, Nemesis--the sequel and Coma Sins/The Madness of Ben Bluman which he wrote with another author, Joseph F. Parente. Steven’s novels were evaluated by the Amazon reviewers, the Midwest Book Review, The US Review of Books, Book Pleasures, Apex Reviews and were rated Five Stars or the equivalent. Fear! received a special five years recognition from the Midwest Book Review Journal in 2011. Currently, Steven is working on his next novel, a new thriller.

Author’s novels are available in ebook, paperback and audio formats on Amazon, Audible.com and Itunes.com. Some of the books are available at Barnes and Noble, B&N.com too. Steven has been always an avid reader of suspense/thriller novels and his favorite Authors are S. King, Ludlum, LeCarre, Clive Cussler, Lee Child and F. Forsyth. Steven lived for several years in France, as reflected by some of his characters in the thrillers Dance of Shadows/Dangerous Trade and The Raven Affair.

“Paul seemed pretty excited about that ad campaign,” Emily said after a moment of silence.

Mitch glanced at her and nodded.  “Advertising is his passion.”

“What?” she asked.

“His passion,” Mitch repeated.  “You know the thing he loves.”

Emily cocked her head and gave him a smile.  “I thought Rachel was his passion.”

Mitch laughed.  “Well, yeah, that’s a given.  But advertising is also a passion.  It gets his juices flowing.  He loves it.  You can tell.  I believe everyone has at least one passion.  It may not always be a healthy one, but everyone has to have something that drives them.”

“What do you mean?”

“Take Steven, for example,” he said to her.  Emily looked over at his brother.  “You know him pretty well.  What do you think is the most important thing to him?”

“Anna,” she said promptly.  “Well, and Mia.  And your parents, you, and Tori.”  She stopped and laughed.  “I guess that’s more than one thing.”

“No.  You got it right.  It’s family.  Steven has always been a family guy.  Has always wanted to be with his family, in his hometown.  That’s his passion.”

“Hmm,” Emily said thinking.  “Do you have a passion?”

“Sure, I have three.”

“Three?  What are they?”

He shot her a sly look.  “You tell me yours, and I’ll tell you mine.”

He hadn’t expected the sad look that crossed her face.  She didn’t respond.  He reached for her hand and squeezed.  “Hey, what’s wrong?”

“I don’t think I have a passion,” she whispered.

“Sure, you do.”  She shook her head so he continued.  “You’re passionate about computers.”

She thought about it for a minute.  “Not really.  I mean I like working with them.  I enjoy teaching about them, but I don’t think I can call it a passion.”  She paused.  “I really don’t have a passion.”

“Well, then, I guess we will have to find you one.”

The Lives We Fear by Dan Otsuki ~ Elite Book Promotions

Genre: Horror, Short Stories

Fear.  From childhood it is instilled in all to fear monsters, ghosts, and other terrors within the realm of the unknown. As adults, we easily forget about the boogeyman who lurked under our bed or in the shadows of a dark corner. Our grown-up fears take on an even more disturbing twist that frequently mingles with reality.

What happens when the things we really fear—the things we can’t bare to lose—invade our lives? The truest form of the human condition is exposed. Whether rational, or irrational, survival—at any cost—becomes paramount, morals be damned. The Lives We Fear is a compilation of short stories that examines these chilling and very plausible scenarios: what does one do when the people one loves are endangered? When life spirals from beyond one’s control? Or, even when one’s humanity is in jeopardy?

From lost loves, to lost friends, wolves in sheep’s clothing, and even getting caught amidst seemingly innocent mistakes, these stories examine just what keeps us up at night and what preoccupies our nightmares when we finally sleep, because it’s not always our own demise that forces us to shiver.

EXCERPT

It felt like a movie: the extras standing in the background, overacting their sense of excitement, or sorrow, or terror; the sound seeming to distort, as though the editors wanted the shot to drown out the world, make the audience focus on what just happened, to give them the sense of how important and terrible what they just saw was. There was blood, too, and not the cheap stuff they get for bad indie films, but the kind that looks real as it spreads through the victim’s clothing like a cancer, then falls with the body. The victim, bless his role, should get an award for his performance—bags dropped to the ground, chest and shoulders shuddering from the impact as he fell with a gasp and nothing more. The shooter should at least be nominated for something, his face cold enough to cut himself from the scene, as though he could see it all unfold as a bystander. Maybe he’s the director. If so, he knows exactly what he’s doing—no ad-libbing. The victim falls, and the boys in the editing room know exactly how to work slow-motion, milk it. They really want the audience to see him fall, his head smacking the pavement, and the red wine in one of his bags falling out and cracking open and mixing with the blood around his head and that spilling from his chest (they’ll call it a symbol for a halo). The audience will cringe, maybe shriek, but after the climax, the falling resolution will leave them feeling satisfied, like that was bound to happen. Peaceful. Because a movie isn’t real. Even those “based on real events” aren’t really real. It’s just a bunch of actors, sets, props, directions—but none of it’s real.

Daniel swayed back and forth, gun trembling in his hands. He wished it was a movie. In the movies, it always works out for the good guy. Right? Wasn’t he the good guy? Wasn’t he? It sure wasn’t Jackson. Jackson’s dead.

Dead.

Really dead. Not like the movies.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Born on October 14, 1993, Dan Otsuki grew up an only child. Since attending the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington—where Dan currently lives as he works on his undergraduate degree—Dan has found a passion for religious studies in addition to English and creative writing. He currently works at Diversions Cafe on the Puget Sound campus, and spends much of his free time engrossed with all kinds of movies with his close friends.
